Italian fashion house Gucci's Changemakers initiative

Italian fashion house Gucci has launched a $1.5 million U.S. university scholarship program that is aimed at students who are “traditionally underrepresented” in the fashion industry. The Gucci Changemakers initiative was announced in March with the aim of changing fashion culture and supporting “industry change and to foster unity through community action.”
The scholarships for students attending four-year universities will consider ethnic and gender diversity. The sweater that resembled blackface cost $890, according to screenshots from the Gucci website, taken before the product was removed.
In the United States, blackface had largely fallen out of favor by the turn of the 21st century and is considered offensive. Blackface is a form of theatrical make-up used by non-black performers to represent a caricature of a black person.
